BIO
MIKE OWENS was born and raised in the small steel town of Johnstown Pennsylvania, the town know as Flood City due to the numerous water related disasters, one of which he witnessed first hand in 1977.  After he dried off, Mike spent the next 18 years watching cartoons, playing with action figures, pretending he was Indiana Jones rolling under the garage door over and over, reluctanly played center field in little league, learned to play the trumpet in the marching band, performed in a few musicals and occasionally drew cartoons.

After leaving Flood City, Mike attended Penn State University to study Film, Literature and Art.  A growing interest in animation led him to Chicago to study at Columbia College and support himself walking dogs for and with the rich and powerful citizens of the Windy City (including Oprah). After a summer internship at Sinnot & Associates, Mike was hired as a full time animator during his last semester at Columbia.

MIKE OWENS
started his professional career in Chicago as a lead animator at Startoons working on television series including The Animaniacs, Pinky & The Brain, and Histeria. While employed at  Startoons, Mike was asked to spend time at their branch studio in Hyderbad India training students and staff.  As a freelance animator at Calabash Animation, he worked on numerous commercial projects featuring Lucky the Leprechaun, the Trix Rabbit and the Keebler Eleves.

Currently Mike is living in Minneapolis working as a freelance Animator  for a variety of commercial, broadcast and web based projects ranging from infommercials for fishing lures on an obscure ESPN outdoors channel to music videos for Yo Gabba Gabba on Nickelodeon. In the hours between he
teaches animation at
The Art Institute
